LCD Soundsystem - “Someone Great”

This video was obviously influenced by those early silhouette iPod commercials and the “someone great is gone” line fits well for today.

The first Apple product I ever owned was an iPod. I traded a spare processor and motherboard for it to a kid I worked with. Hands down one of the greatest products ever created.

RIP Steve Jobs

LCD Soundsystem’s “All My Friends” video remade with LEGO! This is incredibly well done, check out the original to see just how spot on it is.

I’ve been thinking about that final LCD Soundsystem show quite a bit this week. I’m still quite sad that the band is gone. Had I known that James Murphy would have closed the book on LCDS I would have traveled to a few of the shows on their tour with Hot Chip. Oh well, at least they went out on top.

Watch this awesome video for “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” featuring our good friend Kermit the Frog.

Here is the song live from Madison Square Garden during that last show: http://youtu.be/GbT17flw0PA

I can’t wait to go back to New York!

LCD Soundsystem - Final Show

April 2nd, 2011

Madison Square Garden

Show: #3

I can’t believe I got tickets to this show! If you’re not familiar with what happened, basically scalpers sucked up a ton of tickets before fans could get their hands on any. James Murphy lined up a few more shows prior to this one to drive scalper prices down. I got lucky when they released a handful of extra tickets a few days before this show. The seats were in peanut heaven and the view was slightly obstructed, but none of that mattered as I was at the final LCD Soundsystem show!

The show was bittersweet — while it was a great performance, it was hard to say goodbye. LCDS did it right though by going out on top and what a sign off it was! Just check out the brilliant setlist below. I won’t recap the entire show, but my personal highlight were “Get Innocuous!” and “North American Scum” that featured Arcade Fire. I got chills when AF came out, that was truly special.

LCD Soundsystem - “Pow Pow”

This was the last song that LCDS ever recorded. Definitely one of my favorites, it was amazing when they played it at Bonnaroo last year.

LCD Soundsystem - “Tribulations”

Yesterday my friend Adam secured 4 tickets to LCD Soundsystem’s final show at Madison Square Garden in New York City on April 2nd. I’ve been listening to the band for a few years now, but it wasn’t until last year at Bonnaroo that I fell in love with them. I can’t fully explain why, but the group really comes to life live, it’s almost as if they’re an entirely different act. I saw them once again last year at Merriweather Post Pavilion and they were equally as brilliant. It’s absolutely stunning how they recreate their recorded sound in a live setting.

I understand why James Murphy has decided to call it quits with LCD Soundsystem, but that doesn’t make it easy to accept. We’re losing a truly great band this week. Do yourself a favor and check them out. I’ll post a few more tracks throughout the week.

Pitchfork published an article discussing each track in LCD Soundsystem’s discography. I highly recommend reading some or all of it!
